Jeff Shaw
Jeff Shaw was a farmer by birth, an accountant to support himself and his family, and a Real Estate Broker because of his deep love for the industry.
Shaw’s experience as a CPA gave him a deep understanding of many types of businesses and the practices that make some companies very successful, and when others don’t seem to reach their full potential. After eight years in public accounting, he entered private industry and worked as CFO with a large regional luxury home builder which is where he became very interested in all facets of real estate. In addition, he worked with a NYSE public company which had 27 subsidiary companies in many varied and highly regulated industries.
In 1994, Shaw started trying to persuade his wife Carol to allow him leave the accounting profession and purchase a real estate company. A year later, in 1995, she relented and Shaw opened his own start up real estate company in the Tampa market. His focus was not on being the biggest, but in being the best. However, with the high performance and standards of his staff and agents, the company grew to become a very large real estate company with hundreds of millions in annual sales and hundreds of homes sold annually, but the focus on doing the best job for each and every client was always his priority. It didn’t matter if it was a professional athlete from one of Tampa’s sports teams or the a first time home-buyer who is working hard to get into a starter home, every client was treated with dignity and respect, and received the highest possible level of service.
If anything, Shaw overprepared for the real estate industry. He went to school and obtain licenses just to learn more about the industry and to make sure his company was as prepared as possible. Over years, Shaw was licensed as a CPA in 3 states, obtained his real estate sales license, real estate brokers license, mortgage brokers license, contractors license, was a USAA preferred broker, a CARTUS Relocation Broker, a, Transnational Relocation Certified Broker, and a state licensed real estate instructor among others. His desire was simply to attempt to be the best.
A great deal of Shaw’s time was spent teaching others how to be successful in real estate, whether it be single family home sales, investing in residential or commercial real estate, or business valuation and sales. He even wrote his own investment analysis program on how to compare real estate investments, with calculations including cash on cash return, Internal Rate of Return, before and after-tax cash flows, and much more. During his career in Florida, he recruited and trained numerous top real estate professionals.
Century 21 Shaw Realty won numerous awards before he sold the company and moved to Tennessee. Among the awards were Century 21 Centurion Office, Ambassador Award, Finalist for Small Business of the Year award in his market, Century 21 Top Office Award, Gold Medallion Office, President’s Award, Century 21 President’s Advisory Council, Quality Service Award, Quality Service Pinnacle Award, and others.
During much of the time, Shaw and his associates served in several capacities in many worthwhile groups and events. These organizations included such groups a Wounded Warrior Projects, Easter Seals, Haley House, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, several children’s homes, he sponsored a fishing tournament for combat wounded veterans, and through his Soldiers on the Front program, mailed hundreds of boxes to our deployed troops overseas.
Shaw’s father was in the Army and served in Europe in WWII, and his son was in the Army and served in the Gulf Wars. Shaw is a veteran of the Mississippi Air National Guard, but as an accountant, he says, “The most dangerous thing I every picked up after basic training at Lackland was a sharp pencil.” Carol, his wife, retired from teaching after 35 years. Shaw plans to continue giving back to the community here by providing top quality but affordable services to active duty and retired military, law enforcement personnel, and teachers.
